Tayleurian Cup 2011/12
Lochar Thistle 3-1 Upper Annandale (HT 1-1)
Lochar Thistle beat Upper Annandale at Galabank on Saturday to land the Tayleurian Cup, sponsored by McQueen Trophies, by three goals to one. In the early stages it was all Lochar.
Playing uphill and into the wind, they controlled the opening quarter and took a sixth minute lead when Paul Neil on the left beat his man and slid the ball square for Terry Jardine to bundle
in. Gradually, though, Uppers worked their way back into the contest. A header went just wide on the half hour and, four minutes later, a long free kick to the back post was
headed in by Ross Dawson for the equaliser.
The second half was more even throughout. Eight minutes in, a Lochar free kick bobbled through to hit the post followed in the next minute by a goal when, following an attack down
the left, Wug Dempster finished things off with an acute angled shot, low into the far corner. The game flowed back and forth with chances for both sides but Lochar sealed their win twelve minutes
from time when, from a corner, Terry Jardine headed firmly home.
Chloe McKenzie, the sponsor’s daughter, along with Ross Edwards, presented the trophies after the match. Man of the Match went to Mike McGauchie, Lochar’s captain, while Uppers’ star was
Ross Dawson. The hospitality provided by Annan Athletic was first class. The league would like to thank them and McQueen Trophies for all their kindness.
