Burns Cup 2011/12

The Burns Cup is sponsored by the Lochar Inn.

Lochmaben lifted the Burns Cup on Saturday beating Lochar 1 – 0 in a
very close match. Playing on Lochar Youths Enterprise park in perfect
conditions chances were limited throughout. Lochmaben went close after
only 4 minutes when Alan Maxwell’s shot went narrowly past. It took
another half hour before the next good chance – this time Dougie
McRoberts forcing a good save from Lochar keeper Ryan Chambers. Ryan
was on hand again minutes later to block a Shayne Watson shot. Lochar’s
first good effort came when Paul Neils curling shot was saved by Craig
Scobie. Lochar had their best spell just before the break with Mike
McGauchie and Ross Woodward both setting up chances. After the break,
the game continued with very few clear chances with both defences
solid. After 70 minutes, Lochmaben keeper pulled off one of the saves
of the season when a 20 yard Kieran Krause shot heading into the top
left corner was tipped round for a corner. Three minutes later a Scott
Neil cross come shot bounced off the bar twice then Terry Jardine was
clean through but shot narrowly wide. With 3 minutes left from a
corner, an Alan Maxwell header was cleared for another corner, this
time following a melee in the 6yard box Shayne Watson blasted in for
the winner. Anne Wright from sponsors the Lochar Inn presented the
trophy to Lochmaben captain Alan Maxwell with Lochar’s centre half Alan
Milligan winning the MOM award.
